DOJ Has Now Sued 23 States Over Voter Roll Requests as Part of National Election Investigation

The Department of Justice has now sued 23 states and the District of Columbia for refusing to provide complete voter registration lists to the federal government. The Fulton County raid occurred as part of this broader DOJ campaign to obtain election records nationwide. The DOJ's Civil Rights Division filed lawsuits against states including Arizona, California, Colorado, Connecticut, Delaware, Georgia, Hawaii, Illinois, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Nevada, New Hampshire, New Mexico, New York, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Vermont, Virginia, Wisconsin, and Washington. At least 11 states have complied and provided full statewide voter registration lists including driver's license and Social Security numbers. The DNC warned that states complying with the DOJ demand 'may have violated federal law,' specifically provisions of the National Voter Registration Act barring voter roll removals within 90 days of an election. Out of 49.5 million voter registrations run through the federal SAVE program, only 0.02% have been flagged as potential noncitizens. The DOJ has stated the effort is central to enforcing election law requiring states to maintain voter lists.
