Secretaries of state reject Trump's election-fraud claims at national conference

Gathered for the National Association of Secretaries of State summer conference in Rapid City, South Dakota, when Trump delivered his primetime address, state election officials from both parties publicly disputed his claims the next day. Nevada Secretary of State Francisco Aguilar, a Democrat, said DHS's noncitizen-voter figures were "wildly speculative at best" and that "we don't even understand how they calculated those numbers," while Arizona's Adrian Fontes, also a Democrat, said he had "seen zero new facts" and "zero evidence backing any of these claims." Republican officials voiced similar skepticism: Pennsylvania Secretary of the Commonwealth Al Schmidt said "all evidence has shown that noncitizen voting is extremely rare across the country," and New Hampshire Secretary of State David Scanlan called a related DHS letter "a temper tantrum disguised as an official letter." Michigan's Jocelyn Benson and other Democratic secretaries reaffirmed that the 2020, 2022, and 2024 elections were secure, while Georgia's Brad Raffensperger, a Republican, said he would review the documents before commenting further.
