DNI Tulsi Gabbard Accompanies FBI Agents on Fulton County Raid at Trump's Direction
Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard accompanied FBI agents during the search of the Fulton County Elections Hub, an unprecedented move for a DNI whose role is to oversee foreign intelligence, not domestic law enforcement. Gabbard was observed riding in an FBI evidence truck at the scene. In her role overseeing the country's spy agencies, Gabbard is prohibited by law from taking part in domestic law enforcement activities. Former CIA officer Kevin Carroll stated that absent a foreign intelligence nexus, ODNI's involvement 'is wrong and potentially even illegal.' In a later letter to congressional lawmakers, Gabbard said Trump 'specifically directed' her to be present, claiming her 'broad statutory authority to coordinate, integrate, and analyze intelligence related to election security, including counterintelligence, foreign and other malign influence, and cybersecurity.' Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche initially said he did not know why Gabbard was there, stating 'She is not part of the grand jury investigation.' Gabbard's predecessors took pains to keep their distance from Justice Department cases and partisan politics.
