Sunday night was yet another one of those nights President [Donald Trump](https://nymag.com/intelligencer/article/trump-boasts-killing-iranian-scumbags-is-his-great-honor.html) spent very online, sending out long missives on TruthSocial [critiquing the media coverage of the war in Iran ](https://truthsocial.com/@realDonaldTrump/posts/116235861005528220)and[ boosting](https://truthsocial.com/@realDonaldTrump/posts/116236498017197393) conservative pundit Mark Levin amid an internet fight between him and Megyn Kelly. The perpetually legally challenged Trump also went after one of his favorite political targets, dedicating two lengthy posts to criticisms of the court system, particularly the U.S. Supreme Court.
In one [post](https://truthsocial.com/@realDonaldTrump/posts/116236559151421767), Trump attempted to relitigate the [Court’s 6-3 decision last month](https://nymag.com/intelligencer/article/supreme-courts-trump-tariffs-live-updates-reaction-analysis.html) to strike down his extensive foreign tariffs, claiming that he “has the absolute right” to charge tariffs and that he has already continued to do so. “The Court knew where I stood, how badly I wanted this Victory for our Country, and instead decided to, potentially, give away Trillions of Dollars to Countries and Companies who have been taking advantage of the United States for decades,” he said.
The president once again praised Justices [Samuel Alito](https://nymag.com/intelligencer/article/alito-retirement-might-upend-the-midterms.html), [Clarence Thomas](https://nymag.com/intelligencer/article/quick-guide-supreme-court-justice-clarence-thomas-ethics-scandals.html), and [Brett Kavanaugh](https://nymag.com/intelligencer/article/brett-kavanaugh-supreme-court-ice-racial-profiling.html), the three conservative members of the Court who dissented, for their “Wisdom and Courage pertaining to the TARIFF case.” Trump also revived his harsh words against the Court’s liberal justices — Sonia Sotomayor, Elena Kagan, and [Ketanji Brown Jackson](https://nymag.com/intelligencer/2022/02/ketanji-brown-jacksons-public-defender-experience.html) — as well the two conservatives who joined them, Chief Justice [John Roberts](https://nymag.com/intelligencer/article/comey-indictment-trump-john-roberts-supreme-court.html) and Justices Neil Gorsuch and [Amy Coney Barrett](https://nymag.com/intelligencer/article/amy-coney-barrett-supreme-court-trump.html).
“The Democrats on the Court always ‘stick together,’ no matter how strong a case is put before them — There is rarely even a minor ‘waver.’ But Republicans do not do this. They openly disrespect the Presidents who nominate them to the highest position in the Land, a Justice of the United States Supreme Court, and go out of their way, with bad and wrongful rulings and intentions, to prove how ‘honest,’ ‘independent,’ and ‘legitimate’ they are. The Democrat Justices just vote Democrat — They always stick together!” he wrote.
Trump continued, “This completely inept and embarrassing Court was not what the Supreme Court of the United States was set up by our wonderful Founders to be. They are hurting our Country, and will continue to do so. All I can do, as President, is call them out for their bad behavior!”
Trump also went after the lower federal courts, alleging the system treats him and other Republicans “so unfairly” and are “always seeming to protect those who should not be protected.” He specifically named James Boasberg, the chief judge of the U.S. district court of Washington, D.C., who recently blocked federal subpoenas for the Federal Reserve, requests made as part of the Trump administration’s investigation into Federal Reserve chairman [Jerome Powell](https://nymag.com/intelligencer/article/most-notable-reactions-to-the-jerome-powell-investigation.html).
“The D.C. Circuit eagerly supported the arrest and persecution of innocent Republicans for no crimes at all, but is now preventing even a basic investigation into the gross financial mismanagement of the Federal Reserve. In case after case, Boasberg has displayed open, flagrant, and extreme partisan bias and contempt against Republicans and the Trump Administration,” Trump [wrote](https://truthsocial.com/@realDonaldTrump/posts/116236561191626050). “To preserve the integrity of the Judiciary, he should be removed from all cases pertaining to us, and suffer serious disciplinary action, as should numerous other Corrupt Judges that, unfortunately, our Country has had to endure!”
In addition to singling out Boasberg, whom he denounced as a “Wacky, Nasty, Crooked, and totally Out of Control Judge,” Trump also revived his frequent insult against former special counsel [Jack Smith](https://nymag.com/intelligencer/article/jack-smith-paper-tiger-trump-cases.html), calling him “deranged,” and said Powell was “absolutely terrible.”
Targeting federal judges used to be something presidents never did. Now it’s just another Sunday night in Donald Trump’s America.
