WASHINGTON — President Trump on Wednesday downplayed concerns surrounding an [infectious disease outbreak in China](https://www.statnews.com/2020/01/22/trump-china-virus-under-control/) that has alarmed U.S. health officials, particularly after Tuesday’s announcement of the first documented case on American soil.
“It’s one person coming in from China,” Trump said in Davos, Switzerland, during an appearance on CNBC. “We have it under control. It’s going to be just fine.”
The comment marked Trump’s first public acknowledgment of the coronavirus outbreak in the central Chinese city of Wuhan that has sickened hundreds and killed at least 17 people. Federal officials on Tuesday detailed the first U.S. case: that of a man in his 30s who recently returned to Washington state from Wuhan and is being held in isolation at a hospital north of Seattle.
