Five years after supporters of then-outgoing President Donald Trump violently attacked the U.S. Capitol on Jan. 6, 2021, the White House debuted a new website that critics say presents a revisionist account of the events of that day.
Describing the violent mob as "peaceful protesters," the new website "baselessly claims the violence on January 6, 2021, was instigated by law enforcement and then-House Speaker Nancy Pelosi," [according to CNN](https://www.cnn.com/2026/01/06/politics/white-house-january-6-website).
"It recasts the rioters as the victims that day, and depicts President Donald Trump as a hero for granting sweeping pardons for the nearly 1,600 people charged in connection with the deadly attack," they noted.
CNN reported that the website also labels all of the 1,600 pardon recipients as “patriotic Americans.”

The new website, titled “January 6: A Date Which Will Live in Infamy,” claims “zero law enforcement officers lost their lives” that day and characterizes several rioters who died as victims "killed." The page omitted that roughly 140 law enforcement officers were injured and five officers died in the days and months following the attack.
U.S. Capitol Police Officer Brian Sicknick died of strokes a day after he was assaulted while defending the Capitol, and four other officers who responded to the attack died by suicide in the months that followed.
"For years, Trump has whitewashed the history of January 6, when thousands of his supporters violently stormed the Capitol in hopes of preventing Congress from certifying President-elect Joe Biden’s victory. But the new site notably goes further than Trump’s past rhetoric, and gives an official White House platform to his long-debunked claims," CNN reported.
The site also proselytizes Trump's long-running insistence that the 2020 election was stolen from him, despite his own admissions that he lost to Biden.
Describing the White House's revisionist timeline as "cherry-picked," CNN also noted that "the timeline overlooks details of rioters breaking windows to breach the Capitol and assaulting police." Instead, the timeline claims the rally that day was “orderly and spirited, with flags, signs and chants supporting President Trump.”
The site also criticizes Capitol Police, accusing officers of “deliberately escalating tensions” and labeling their efforts to control the crowd as “provocative tactics,” despite extensive video evidence showing rioters attacking police first.
It also takes sharp aim at Pelosi, who, along with then-Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer called on officials like Virginia Governor Ralph Northam, Acting Attorney General Jeffrey Rosen and the Secretary of Defense to request immediate law enforcement and National Guard assistance to remove the rioters.
It also attacks Trump’s former vice president, Mike Pence, who was a target of the mob, with some rioters chanting threats to hang him.
"The website champions Trump’s controversial claim that then-Vice President Mike Pence 'had the opportunity to return disputed electoral slates to state legislatures for review and decertification,' during the joint session of Congress that day, but chose not to 'in an act of cowardice and sabotage,'" CNN noted.
“January 6th was not an aberration and it was not spontaneous. It was the culmination of a sustained assault on truth, on the rule of law, and one of the most sacred principles of our democracy: the peaceful transfer of power,” Pelosi said in a statement on Tuesday, where she called January 6 an “attempted coup” incited by Trump to overturn the 2020 election.
