US Appeals Court Rejects Trump Policy Allowing Swift Deportations to Third Countries

A three-judge panel of the Boston-based 1st US Circuit Court of Appeals largely upheld a lower-court ruling that declared unlawful a Trump administration policy allowing rapid deportations of migrants to countries other than their own without meaningful opportunity to raise safety concerns. The policy, adopted in March 2025 as part of Trump's immigration crackdown, had been used to send more than 25,000 migrants to at least 29 third countries. The lower court found the policy failed to protect migrants' due process rights and could lead to swift deportation without notice to unfamiliar and potentially dangerous countries. The case is expected to head to the Supreme Court.
