Trump Claims Russia and Ukraine Agreed Not to Hit Energy Targets; Neither Confirms

President Trump posted on Truth Social that Ukraine had agreed not to strike Russian energy targets and that Russia 'has agreed to do, likewise,' one day after telling reporters in Ireland that Zelenskyy had to 'stop knocking out diesel fuel in Russia.' Neither government confirmed any such agreement. Zelenskyy said Kyiv was ready to stop its strikes only if allies ensured Moscow would stop hitting Ukrainian energy facilities, infrastructure and food supply routes, adding 'we expect specifics from our partners.' Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov welcomed Trump's call for Ukraine to stop striking Russian energy infrastructure but did not say Moscow would reciprocate, and said Russian forces would continue operating across Ukraine. Within three days Bloomberg reported both countries were again trading strikes on energy infrastructure. The same post attributed the global diesel price rise 'mostly' to the Russia/Ukraine war, 'not Iran,' amid the U.S. war on Iran and two months before the midterm elections. Trump repeated the claim as a formal 'energy ceasefire' announcement on 2026-10-11.
