Supreme Court Rejects Trump's Plan to Limit Birthright Citizenship
The U.S. Supreme Court, in a 6-3 decision, upheld the 14th Amendment's guarantee of birthright citizenship, striking down President Trump's Executive Order 14160. The order, signed on January 20, 2025, sought to deny citizenship to children born in the United States to parents who are undocumented or temporarily present. The ruling in Trump v. Barbara affirmed that anyone born on U.S. soil is a citizen with very limited exceptions, blocking Trump's attempt to unilaterally reinterpret the Constitution.
"Children born to people who are in the United States illegally or temporarily are not American citizens."
