Trump sued over unauthorized 'Garden of American Heroes' plan for West Potomac Park

A coalition of six Washington-area preservation and cultural heritage organizations filed a lawsuit against the Trump administration to halt President Trump's plan to build a 'National Garden of American Heroes' in West Potomac Park. The groups—including the National Parks Conservation Association, DC Preservation League, National Mall Coalition, Olmsted Network, Committee of 100 on the Federal City, The Cultural Landscape Foundation, and D.C. resident Steve Longenecker—argue that the project requires congressional authorization before proceeding and that Trump is attempting to 'take over public spaces for himself and remake our nation's capital in his own image.' The lawsuit contends that the massive statuary garden violates federal law governing the congressionally mandated recreational area. The project stems from Trump's original 2020 executive order establishing the garden concept, which he has now moved to implement without seeking required congressional approval.
