Trump threatens NATO future over Hormuz refusal, says 'it will be very bad for the future of NATO'

In a Financial Times interview, Trump warned that it would be 'very bad for the future of NATO' if member countries did not send military forces to help police the Strait of Hormuz. He also threatened to postpone a summit with Chinese President Xi Jinping if the strait situation was not resolved, saying 'We've got a war going on. I think it's important that I be here.' Trump expressed that he was 'greatly disappointed' in allies, saying some countries 'where we've helped for many, many years' and 'protected them from horrible outside sources' were not 'enthusiastic' about helping. The threats against NATO's future from a president who started a unilateral war and then demanded allied participation alarmed European leaders and defense analysts, who noted Trump was essentially threatening to destroy the Western alliance because allies refused to join a war they were never consulted about.
