Trump says US doesn't need allies' help in Iran -- hours after demanding NATO, China, and others join Hormuz coalition

In one of the starkest contradictions of the entire Iran war, Trump told reporters at the Kennedy Center that the US does not need help from allies, after spending the preceding 24 hours loudly demanding that NATO members, China, Japan, South Korea, France, and the UK send warships to help secure the Strait of Hormuz. On Sunday he had said 'I'm demanding that these countries come in and protect their own territory.' On Monday he said 'Whether we get support or not, I can say this, and I said it to them: We will remember.' He threatened that it would be 'very bad for the future of NATO' if countries failed to join. But he also told Fox News 'we don't need the help in drone defense' and told NBC 'we don't need help.' Rolling Stone headlined: 'Trump Says U.S. Doesn't Need Allies' Help...After He Demanded It.' CNN analysis noted Trump 'insisted he didn't need allies' help in Iran. Now he's demanding they step in.' The flip occurred within the same news cycle.
