Trump administration asks Supreme Court to revoke protected status for 350,000 Haitian nationals

The Trump administration filed an emergency request with the Supreme Court asking justices to allow the revocation of Temporary Protected Status (TPS) for more than 350,000 Haitian nationals living legally in the United States. U.S. Solicitor General D. John Sauer asked the Court to block a February federal district court ruling in Washington, D.C. that prevented the administration from ending the humanitarian immigration protections. The administration also requested the justices take up the merits of the case, along with a similar case involving Syria, without waiting for a federal appeals court decision. The move would expose hundreds of thousands of Haitians who have lived in the U.S. for years to potential deportation and loss of work authorization. The Haitian TPS designation has been in place since 2010 following the devastating earthquake, with many recipients having established lives, families, and careers in the United States over more than a decade.

"The administration requested the justices take up the merits of the case, along with a similar case involving Syria, without waiting for a federal appeals court decision." — From the emergency filing to the Supreme Court, demonstrating the administration's urgency to bypass normal appellate procedures to revoke humanitarian protections.
