Trump tells Axios 'practically nothing left to target' in Iran, then tells rally crowd 'we gotta finish the job'

In a five-minute phone call with Axios, Trump said the war would end 'soon' because there was 'practically nothing left to target,' adding 'Little this and that... Any time I want it to end, it will end.' He boasted 'The war is going great. We are way ahead of the timetable. We have done more damage than we thought possible, even in the original six-week period.' But the same day while departing the White House for a rally in Kentucky, Trump told reporters the US 'is not done' hitting Iran. At the rally, Trump told the crowd 'You never like to say too early you won. We won. In the first hour it was over,' but then pivoted to 'We don't want to leave early, do we? We gotta finish the job, right?' The whiplash between victory declarations and calls to continue fighting reflected a pattern of Trump wanting credit for winning while keeping the war going indefinitely. Israeli Defense Minister Katz said the same day the war would continue 'without any time limit, for as long as necessary.'
