Trump Falsely Claims 'Largest Tax Cuts in American History' in State of the Union

In his 2026 State of the Union, Trump claimed his tax legislation represents 'the largest tax cuts in American history.' This is false. An analysis by the nonpartisan Tax Foundation found the One Big Beautiful Bill Act is the sixth-largest tax cut in U.S. history, not the largest. The bill adds new tax breaks on tips, overtime pay, and Social Security benefits, but the Congressional Budget Office found that the bulk of savings go to the wealthy, with middle-income households seeing between $500 and $1,000 a year. The bill also cut spending on safety-net programs.
