Trump Falsely Claims Gas Prices Below $2.30 in Most States During State of the Union

During his State of the Union address on February 24, 2026, President Trump falsely claimed that gasoline prices were "now below $2.30 a gallon in most states, and in some places, $1.99 a gallon." According to AAA data from that same day, no U.S. state had an average regular gasoline price below $2.30 per gallon. The national average was actually $2.97. Oklahoma had the lowest state average at $2.37 per gallon. Multiple fact-checking organizations immediately debunked the claim, noting Trump significantly understated actual gas prices while touting his economic record during the economic achievements portion of his address to Congress.
