Trump Falsely Claims $18 Trillion in Secured Investments During State of the Union
During his 2026 State of the Union address, Trump claimed to have secured commitments for more than $18 trillion in new investment for the United States. Multiple fact-checkers found no evidence supporting this figure, which would represent nearly 60% of U.S. GDP. The White House's own website listed a much lower figure of $9.6 trillion, which itself appears to include investments from the Biden administration and highly speculative commitments. Bloomberg analysis found that $2.27 trillion of even the lower figure consisted only of vague promises rather than actual investment commitments. Trump has repeated this $18 trillion claim for months without providing any evidence or documentation for how he arrived at the number.
