Trump threatens Republicans with electoral consequences for voting against Canada tariffs

As the House voted on a resolution to rescind his tariffs on Canada, Donald Trump posted on Truth Social warning congressional Republicans that 'Any Republican, in the House or the Senate, that votes against TARIFFS will seriously suffer the consequences come Election time, and that includes Primaries!' Despite this threat, six House Republicans—Reps. Thomas Massie (KY), Brian Fitzpatrick (PA), Mike Lawler (NY), David Valadao (CA), Young Kim (CA), and John Duarte (CA)—joined Democrats in passing the largely symbolic resolution disapproving of the national emergency Trump declared to impose tariffs on Canada. The bipartisan rebuke represented a rare break with the president on his trade policy, though Trump is expected to veto the resolution. This pattern of threatening primary challenges against dissenting Republicans has been a recurring tactic throughout Trump's political career.
