FBI seizes exclusive control of shooting investigation, blocks Minnesota state authorities from evidence

The FBI reversed course and seized exclusive control of the investigation into ICE agent Jonathan Ross's fatal shooting of Renee Nicole Good, blocking the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension from the case. The Minnesota BCA stated that the FBI had initially conducted a joint investigation, but 'reversed course,' adding the BCA 'would no longer have access to the case materials, scene evidence or investigative interviews necessary to complete a thorough and independent investigation.' Governor Tim Walz expressed skepticism about the federal takeover: 'It feels very, very difficult that we will get a fair outcome.' The seizure of the investigation came as Vice President Vance asserted the ICE agent was 'protected by absolute immunity' and 'was doing his job,' effectively signaling the administration would prevent accountability. The FBI takeover prevents state authorities from conducting independent forensic analysis of video evidence that Minneapolis officials say contradicts federal claims of self-defense.
