Falsely claims no murders in Washington DC for seven months at GOP retreat

During his House GOP retreat speech at the Kennedy Center, Trump falsely claimed there had been no murders in Washington, DC in the last seven months, touting his administration's law enforcement takeover of Washington. In reality, Metropolitan Police Department data shows there were approximately 59 homicides during that time period. Local police had announced multiple murders in just the final week of December alone, including a man shot dead on December 31, another who died December 28 from an earlier shooting, and a third shot dead on December 27. The false claim was part of an hour-long speech containing at least 18 inaccurate statements.
