ICE agents pepper spray State Rep. Aisha Gomez and community members during Minneapolis street confrontation

During an ICE enforcement action in South Minneapolis near Lake Street and Pillsbury Avenue, dozens of residents confronted federal agents. State Rep. Aisha Gomez (DFL), whose district includes the area, was among those hit with chemical irritants. Gomez reported: 'An ICE agent is now shooting at this crowd with pepper bullets. Everyone is coughing. We just had chemical agents used against us by federal agents. This is what we are facing in the streets of Minneapolis right now. A full-on federal invasion.' ICE also allegedly used a Taser on an observer. A WCCO reporter and photographer were among those hit with the irritant. Federal agents arrested Minneapolis protesters during the Pillsbury Avenue confrontation. The incident foreshadowed the escalating tensions that would culminate in the fatal shooting of Renee Nicole Good nine days later.
