Signs EO 14290 directing CPB to end funding for NPR and PBS as 'biased media'

Trump signed Executive Order 14290 ordering the Corporation for Public Broadcasting (CPB) to end both direct and indirect federal funding flows to NPR and PBS, directing the board to cancel existing support and rewrite grant eligibility rules to block future funding. The order framed public broadcasting as "biased and partisan" and sought to use executive power to financially punish media institutions that provide critical coverage. NPR and PBS leaders argued the directive was unlawful and warned it would damage local public-media stations that rely on CPB support.

"The CPB Board shall cease direct funding to NPR and PBS... to ensure that Federal funding does not support biased and partisan news coverage." — Executive Order 14290, Sec. 2(a)
