Signs 'Meritocracy' executive order seeking to curtail disparate-impact civil rights enforcement

Trump signed an executive order titled 'Restoring Equality of Opportunity and Meritocracy' directing federal agencies to move away from disparate-impact enforcement and to review and revise regulations and guidance accordingly. Civil rights advocates warned the order functionally weakens longstanding anti-discrimination protections in employment, housing, and education by constraining the tools agencies use to detect and remedy systemic discrimination.
