Repeatedly 'jokes' about Canada becoming 51st state, mocking Trudeau as 'Governor'

Trump repeatedly "joked" about Canada becoming the 51st state in what former National Security Advisor John Bolton described as a deliberate campaign to "humiliate" Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau. During a Mar-a-Lago dinner over tariffs, Trump suggested Canada become the 51st state if tariffs would hurt their economy. When Trudeau and others laughed nervously, Trump continued, saying "prime minister is a better title, though he could still be governor of the 51st state." Trump then repeatedly referred to Trudeau as "Governor Justin Trudeau of the Great State of Canada" on Truth Social and posted: "Many Canadians want Canada to become the 51st State. They would save massively on taxes and military protection. I think it is a great idea. 51st State!!!" Trudeau responded: "There isn't a snowball's chance in hell that Canada would become a part of the United States."
