Trump nominates Rep. Matt Gaetz for Attorney General despite DOJ sex trafficking investigation
Trump nominated Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-FL) to be Attorney General, despite Gaetz being under House Ethics Committee investigation for alleged sexual misconduct, illicit drug use, and sex trafficking. The DOJ had previously investigated Gaetz for sex trafficking a minor but declined to press charges. Hours after his nomination, Gaetz resigned from Congress, halting the Ethics investigation. The nomination stunned even Republican senators.
"Matt will end the weaponized Government, protect our Borders, dismantle Criminal Organizations and restore Americans' badly-shattered Faith and Confidence in the Justice Department." — Official announcement, November 13, 2024
