Springfield schools and city buildings receive 33+ bomb threats after Trump's debate lies

In the days following Trump's debate claims about Haitian immigrants eating pets, Springfield, Ohio was inundated with at least 33 bomb threats targeting schools and city facilities. All threats were determined to be hoaxes, but caused massive disruption: schools were evacuated and closed for multiple days, Wittenberg University moved to virtual learning, City Hall was evacuated, and the city's annual CultureFest celebration was cancelled. Ohio Governor Mike DeWine deployed state resources including bomb-detecting dogs and Highway Patrol officers to sweep all 17 school district buildings. DeWine stated: "Our children deserve to be in school. Parents deserve to feel that their children are being educated and that their children are safe." The threats created a climate of fear in Springfield's Haitian community, with many families afraid to send children to school or leave their homes.
