Asks judge to punt classified-documents trial until after 2024 election

Trump’s attorneys told US district judge Aileen Cannon that she should not even set a tentative trial date in the Mar-a-Lago classified-documents case until after the 2024 election, arguing in a 12-page filing that the government’s proposed December schedule was “unrealistic” because of CIPA procedures and the volume of discovery. The filing made clear that delaying accountability—potentially long enough for Trump to retake office and kill the case—was the defense strategy, not any evidentiary dispute.

"The court should, respectfully, before establishing any trial date, allow time for development of further clarity as to the full nature and scope of the motions that will be filed." — Response to DOJ schedule motion filed July 10, 2023
