Trump calls NY Attorney General a 'racist' in response to fraud lawsuit

On September 21, 2022, hours after New York Attorney General Letitia James filed a $250 million civil fraud lawsuit against him, Trump posted a series of Truth Social messages attacking James, writing that the suit was "Another Witch Hunt by a racist Attorney General, Letitia James, who failed in her run for Governor, getting almost zero support from the public." He also wrote that James, who is Black, "is a fraud who campaigned on a 'get Trump' platform" and separately called her "a total crime fighting disaster in New York." U.S. News reported this was not the first time Trump had called James racist, citing a similar accusation he made in April 2022. Trump attorney Alina Habba separately said the filing was "neither focused on the facts nor the law ... rather, it is solely focused on advancing the Attorney General's political agenda."
