Trump lawyer falsely certifies all classified documents returned to government
In response to the May grand jury subpoena, Trump attorney Christina Bobb signed a certification stating that "a diligent search" had been conducted and all classified documents responsive to the subpoena had been returned to the government. This certification was false—the FBI would later discover over 100 additional classified documents at Mar-a-Lago during the August search. The false certification became a key piece of evidence in the obstruction case, demonstrating that Trump and his team actively misled federal investigators. According to the later indictment, Trump had directed employees to move boxes of documents to conceal them from his own lawyer and from federal investigators, making the certification knowingly false. The certification was accompanied by the return of only 38 classified documents, a fraction of what remained at the property.
