Truth Social launches with glitchy start after year-long Twitter ban
Trump's social media platform Truth Social launched in the Apple App Store on February 22, 2022, more than a year after he was banned from major platforms following the January 6 Capitol attack. The launch was plagued with technical issues—users faced long waitlists, error messages, and crashes. The platform, which bills itself as free from "political discrimination" and censorship by "Big Tech," shot to the top of Apple's most-downloaded apps despite its rocky debut. Truth Social was created by Trump Media & Technology Group (TMTG) in response to his bans from Twitter, Facebook, and other platforms. The platform's terms of service ironically prohibited users from "disparaging" the site itself.
