Praises Taliban as 'good fighters' and disputes withdrawal casualty record in Hannity interview
In a Fox News interview with Sean Hannity as the Taliban consolidated control of Kabul, Trump called the Taliban "good fighters" who "have been fighting for a thousand years" and said the United States was "being set up by very tough people that are very great negotiators." He claimed "we lost no soldiers in the last year-and-a-half because of me and because of the understanding that we had" with the Taliban, and said there could be "40,000 potential hostages" among Americans and others in Afghanistan, a figure well above other estimates at the time. He also called Biden's handling of the withdrawal the country's "greatest embarrassment."
