Fires impeachment witnesses Vindman and Sondland in "Friday Night Massacre"

Two days after his acquittal, Trump fired Lt. Col. Alexander Vindman and EU Ambassador Gordon Sondland, both of whom had provided damaging testimony during the impeachment inquiry. Vindman was escorted out of the White House by security. The purge was widely condemned as retaliation against whistleblowers and witnesses, chilling future oversight.

"I don't know him. I don't know, as he says, 'Ambassador Sondland.' I don't know him very well. I have not spoken to him much. This is not a man that I know well." — Comments to reporters (denying knowing Sondland before firing him), November 8, 2019 (context for firing)
