Impeached by House on abuse of power and obstruction
The House of Representatives impeached Trump on two articles: abuse of power (230-197-1) and obstruction of Congress (229-198-1). The abuse of power charge stemmed from Trump pressuring Ukraine to investigate Joe Biden while withholding $400 million in military aid and a White House meeting. The obstruction charge was based on Trump directing staff and agencies not to comply with congressional subpoenas. All House Democrats voted in favor except Collin Peterson and Jeff Van Drew (who voted against) and Tulsi Gabbard (who voted present). All Republicans voted against, though independent Justin Amash (formerly Republican) voted in favor. Trump became only the third president impeached in U.S. history. The Senate acquitted him on February 5, 2020.
