Sends unhinged 6-page letter to Pelosi on eve of impeachment

On the eve of his impeachment vote, Trump sent a rambling, grievance-filled six-page letter to Speaker Pelosi that read like a stream-of-consciousness rant. The letter called impeachment 'an unprecedented and unconstitutional abuse of power' and accused Democrats of 'perversion of justice.' Trump claimed 'more due process was afforded to those accused in the Salem Witch Trials' and invoked religion: 'Even worse than your lies is your hap and disrespect for the tremendous people who came to Washington on faith.' The letter was riddled with false claims and conspiracy theories, including promoting debunked theories about Ukraine and the 2016 election. Historians and psychiatrists expressed alarm at the letter's unhinged tone. The White House released it publicly, apparently believing it helped Trump's case. Instead, it became further evidence of his unfitness for office.
