White House declares total war on impeachment, refuses all cooperation

White House Counsel Pat Cipollone sent an eight-page letter to House Democratic leaders declaring the Trump administration would not cooperate 'in any way' with the impeachment inquiry. The letter called the inquiry 'constitutionally invalid' and 'unprecedented in the history of the Nation,' making sweeping claims of executive privilege and absolute immunity for all current and former aides. The letter directed all executive branch agencies to ignore congressional subpoenas. This marked an unprecedented blanket refusal of congressional oversight, turning Trump's obstruction into official White House policy. The move essentially dared Congress to enforce its subpoenas through contempt proceedings, delaying tactics Trump used throughout his presidency. Constitutional scholars called the claims legally baseless and an assault on separation of powers.
