House condemns Trump's 'racist comments' in historic resolution
The House of Representatives passed a resolution condemning President Trump's 'racist comments' against the four congresswomen, with a vote of 240-187. Only four Republicans voted with Democrats: Will Hurd, Brian Fitzpatrick, Fred Upton, and Susan Brooks. Independent Justin Amash also voted yes. The resolution labeled Trump's tweets as 'racist' - a direct condemnation that was itself controversial, as Republicans objected that it violated House decorum rules against impugning the president. A procedural fight broke out, but Speaker Pelosi was ultimately allowed to continue. It was only the fourth time in history that a president was formally rebuked by the House for racially inflammatory statements.
