Issues first veto to preserve border emergency funding

Trump rejected Congress's bipartisan resolution terminating his border emergency, calling lawmakers' vote "reckless" and asserting he had a "duty" to veto it so he could keep diverting billions from military projects to build the wall despite Congress refusing to fund it.

"Congress has the freedom to pass this resolution, and I have the duty to veto it." — Oval Office veto ceremony, March 15, 2019
