WSJ reveals $130K hush money payment to porn star Stormy Daniels
The Wall Street Journal reported that Trump's lawyer Michael Cohen paid adult film star Stormy Daniels $130,000 in October 2016 to keep silent about an alleged 2006 affair with Trump. The payment came one month before the election. Trump and the White House initially denied knowledge of the payment. The revelation would later lead to federal campaign finance violation charges against Cohen, who pleaded guilty and implicated Trump as directing the illegal payment. Cohen testified Trump knew about and directed the hush money scheme to influence the 2016 election. The payment became central to Trump's later criminal indictment in New York.
