Trump Falsely Accuses Obama of Wiretapping Trump Tower
President Trump posted a series of tweets making the baseless accusation that President Obama had ordered wiretapping of Trump Tower during the 2016 campaign. Trump claimed 'Terrible! Just found out that Obama had my "wires tapped" in Trump Tower just before the victory. Nothing found. This is McCarthyism!' and 'How low has President Obama gone to tapp my phones during the very sacred election process. This is Nixon/Watergate. Bad (or sick) guy!' These serious allegations were made without any evidence and were subsequently contradicted by former Director of National Intelligence James Clapper on March 5, who stated definitively that no such FISA court order existed during his tenure. The false claims represented an unprecedented attack by a sitting president against his predecessor, undermining institutional trust and spreading disinformation about the intelligence community and legal surveillance processes.
