Calls F-35 program "out of control" and threatens to cut costs

Trump tweeted that the F-35 Joint Strike Fighter program was "out of control" and promised to save "billions" on defense purchases once in office, rattling markets and signaling he would personally intervene in Pentagon contracts before taking the oath. Lockheed Martin's stock immediately dropped after the post even as the Pentagon stressed the jet's strategic value and allies like Israel were taking delivery of the aircraft.

"The F-35 program and cost is out of control. Billions of dollars can and will be saved on military (and other) purchases after January 20th." — Twitter post
