Claims George W. Bush lied about Iraq WMD and blames him for 9/11 on debate stage
During the Feb. 13, 2016 Republican debate in Greenville, South Carolina, Trump attacked former President George W. Bush by declaring that the Bush administration had “lied” about weapons of mass destruction in Iraq and by blaming Bush for failing to prevent the 9/11 attacks. He insisted that “they knew there were none” when they went into Iraq and told Jeb Bush that the World Trade Center “came down during your brother’s reign,” packaging contested claims about prewar intelligence into a blunt accusation of deliberate deceit in front of a Republican audience still steeped in post-9/11 politics.
