Doubles down on Muslim Ban as "security" measure
In the January 14 Republican debate, Trump refused to back down from his proposal to ban all Muslims from entering the United States. When pressed, he reframed the discriminatory policy as a necessity for national safety, stating, "We are not talking about isolation, we're talking about security. We are not talking about religion, we are talking about security." He further justified the ban by claiming, "We can't allow people to come into this country that have horrible thoughts in their mind," continuing to conflate the Muslim faith with terrorism.
