Wins ruling to keep suing Taj Mahal casino over Trump name

Bankruptcy Judge Kevin Gross lifted a stay on Feb. 20 so Donald and Ivanka Trump could keep suing Trump Entertainment Resorts in state court to strip the “Trump” name from the Taj Mahal, arguing the bankrupt casino’s “utter state of disrepair” tarnished their brand even though they no longer controlled the property. The ruling let them continue leveraging their licensing agreement to pressure the embattled casino’s owners—already cutting workers’ pay and benefits—to either meet their standards or remove the name entirely.

"Trump Entertainment Resorts has allowed the Taj to fall into an utter state of disrepair in violation of their licensing agreement." — Trump attorney Alan Garten after Judge Kevin Gross lifted the stay, February 20, 2015
