Stokes NYPD-de Blasio rift after officer assassinations

Days after two NYPD officers were murdered in their patrol car in an apparent retaliation for Eric Garner's death, Trump tweeted 'Can the relationship between the mayor of New York City and the police force ever be fixed?' and promoted his Fox & Friends appearance to discuss it. The tweet came during a period when NYPD officers were literally turning their backs on Mayor de Blasio at officer funerals. Trump was positioning himself on the side of police against the progressive mayor, a template he would use throughout his political career.
